Stuttgart Confirm Pejcinovic Signing as Bayern Reject Al-Hilal's Bid for Luis Diaz
Main stories
VfB Stuttgart have officially confirmed the signing of striker Dzenan Pejcinovic from VfL Wolfsburg on a contract through 2031, the club announced on Monday after the 21-year-old passed his medical in Stuttgart. The fee is set at €25m without bonuses, with the Germany U21 international earning around €2.5m per year, closing out weeks of negotiation between the two clubs.
Bayern have rejected an approach from Saudi club Al-Hilal for winger Luis Diaz, who was the subject of a reported €70m offer, according to L'Équipe. Board chairman Jan-Christian Dreesen confirmed Bayern have no intention of selling, with the Colombia international still having three years left on his contract in Munich.
Harry Kane is in talks over extending his Bayern contract to 2029, with his current deal running only to summer 2027, according to reports from the Times relayed by Kicker. Final negotiations are expected once the striker returns from his post-World Cup break, with Kane due back at Bayern's training base by the end of the week.
The DFB-Pokal first round has been scheduled to run from 21 August to 2 September, opening with three matches on Friday 21 August, including third-tier Hansa Rostock hosting last season's beaten finalists VfB Stuttgart in a match to be shown live on ZDF. Bayern and Dortmund enter the competition later than the rest of the field as reigning Bundesliga champions and runners-up, with Bayern facing VfL Osnabrück on 2 September and Dortmund travelling to Hamburger SV on 1 September.
Transfer and squad notes
The 2026 Franz Beckenbauer Supercup between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund has been confirmed for 22 August at Signal Iduna Park, with Dortmund hosting as Bundesliga runners-up and Bayern arriving as double winners of last season's league and cup.
What it means for the league
Stuttgart's completed move for Pejcinovic gives Sebastian Hoeness a forward option to build around heading into a season that starts with a tricky cup tie at Hansa Rostock. Bayern's stance on both Diaz and Kane signals a club prioritising continuity in its attack rather than further turnover, even as other Bundesliga sides continue reshaping squads late in the window. With Bayern and Dortmund both delayed into the DFB-Pokal by their continental and domestic commitments, the two clubs' first competitive test of the season will instead come in the Supercup on 22 August.
