FIGC Reaches Commissioner Deal as Milan's Injury Crisis Deepens and Juventus Derby Fallout Continues

Main stories

Italian football's governing body FIGC will be placed under special administration, but CONI president Luciano Buonfiglio and FIGC president Giovanni Malago have agreed that Malago himself will serve as commissioner, following a dispute over an incomplete registration ("tesseramento") at the time of his election, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. Under the deal, confirmed in CONI's Giunta meeting on Tuesday, new FIGC presidential elections would be called within 60-90 days, with Malago — who won 68.58% of the vote at the original ballot — expected to be the likely sole candidate.

Turin police have issued more than 40 stadium bans and around 20 precautionary measures following an investigation into clashes before last season's Torino-Juventus derby on 24 May, Gazzetta reported. The measures, carried out in Turin, Milan and Genoa, target organised ultras groups from both clubs after disorder outside the stadium left one fan, Marco Leonardo Basoccu, injured by a tear-gas canister.

Transfer and squad notes

AC Milan have been hit with a double injury blow down their left flank: Alexis Saelemaekers needs ankle surgery next week and will be out until 2027, while Pervis Estupinan suffered a knee injury on international duty with Ecuador against Japan, ruling him out of Sunday's trip to Sassuolo at minimum. Gazzetta reported that coach Ruben Amorim is expected to turn to Davide Bartesaghi at left-back, with Diego Moreira — in form after three straight Serie A goals — the likely long-term option to replace Saelemaekers out wide.

Bologna striker Thijs Dallinga, on loan at Koln with a 10 million euro buy-option, has torn his anterior cruciate ligament in a friendly, putting the planned permanent sale in doubt, according to Tuttobolognaweb. Dallinga had opened the season with a brace against Hoffenheim before the injury.

Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu trained fully with the squad for the first time after an adductor problem and is available for Saturday's Serie A visit from Parma and the Champions League trip to Club Brugge, Gazzetta reported. Coach Cristian Chivu is weighing how to split his minutes between the two games, while Calhanoglu's camp has reportedly been told to expect a reduced base salary, down from his current 6 million euros, in any contract renewal talks.

What it means for the league

The FIGC settlement avoids a prolonged leadership vacuum at the top of Italian football, though a fresh presidential election within months means the governance question isn't fully closed. Milan's injury losses on the left side underline how thin elite squads can be stretched by a packed early-season calendar and international call-ups, a pattern also hitting Bologna's asset-management plans around Dallinga. Meanwhile, the derby-related Daspo measures are a reminder that stadium security remains an active concern even months after the fact, as clubs including Inter prepare to return from the break with contract and fitness questions still unresolved.
