Inter confirm Dumfries exit as Milan close on Glasner and Napoli await Allegri

Main stories

Inter have confirmed the departure of Denzel Dumfries, with sporting director Piero Ausilio stating the right-back is joining Real Madrid. The move sees the Netherlands international leave for the Spanish club, where José Mourinho has just been appointed head coach, after Madrid moved to trigger his release clause.

Milan are closing in on a new manager of their own, with Oliver Glasner now the clear frontrunner following a lengthy meeting in Germany. The Austrian — backed by Gerry Cardinale and Zlatan Ibrahimović — is ahead of Mauricio Pochettino and Matthias Jaissle, though no appointment has been confirmed, leaving Milan at risk of being the last Serie A club to fill its bench.

Napoli's switch to Massimiliano Allegri, meanwhile, remains agreed but unannounced. Antonio Conte's exit is official, but the formal confirmation is still held up by Allegri's severance from Milan.

Transfer and squad notes

Juventus are pushing on several fronts under Luciano Spalletti. The Serbia striker Dušan Vlahović's contract situation has stalled, with Chelsea linked, while reports say Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez has agreed personal terms and the club is also chasing Bologna's John Lucumí and Atlético's Alexander Sørloth; none of those deals is confirmed.

Elsewhere, Inter are lining up replacements, reportedly working on a buy-back of Aleksandar Stankovic and moves for Palestra, Oumar Solet and goalkeeper Ivan Provedel, with Davide Frattesi a possible departure. Roma, under Gian Piero Gasperini, are hunting attacking options, with Crysencio Summerville and Mason Greenwood among the names linked.

What it means for the league

The off-season's defining theme — the managerial merry-go-round — is edging toward resolution, but Milan's drawn-out search and Napoli's stalled announcement mean two of the league's biggest clubs still lack a confirmed head coach with the new season's calendar already out. The clubs that missed the Champions League, Milan and Juventus, carry the most pressure to get their rebuilds right.

With many players at the World Cup and the window not fully open, much of the activity remains at the agreed or targeted stage. Inter's confirmed sale of Dumfries is among the first concrete dominoes, and others should follow once squads regroup.
